I am a bit late posting pictures because we haven't had any power for the last 24 hours. (Only just got it back about half an hour ago)
16 March at about 3 pm a massive storm hit Port Stephens. This is the view from our family room. You can't hear the noise of the wind but it was so loud. The storm lasted about 20 minutes and the damage it caused was horrendous. The SES are still out there working non stop to clear up the damage.
We were lucky and only lost two large branches from a couple of our trees.
I will post a Port Stephens photo in my topics album later, although this could be Port Stephens couldn't it!!
@annied Not sure how Anna Bay fared. We are at Corlette and that got hit and Nelson Bay and Little Beach I believe got a bit of a hammering too. Our power was off from 3 pm yesterday to 4 pm today. The picture on the 17th will tell you why!!
I love Birubi Beach.
@hermann We were okay, lost a couple of branches off trees, but that was all. David went to Soldiers Point just before the storm and because it was so hot he had the windows open. At Soldiers Point he remembered to close the drivers side window but forgot the passenger side and when the horizontal rain hit he got one pretty soggy car!!!
@karlow75@lafish@huvesaker@happypat@jennyheath@kathiecb Thanks everyone. It only lasted about 15 minutes and an hour later the skies were blue again and it was very warm and humid.
Yes Pat we have something to boil a kettle on (can't live without my cup of tea). We have gas burners and a barbeque, plus candles, LED lights and gas lamps, so quite self sufficient. Isn't it aqmazing though how you can be walking through the darkness holding a candle and when you get to the room you are aiming for you try to turn the light on!!! ha ha.
Must have been quite some storm! We were under one of those small but intense storm cells a week or two ago and got 25mm rain in 20 minutes - no rain at all at places 1 km from here. No big damage here, but the gutters were like Niagara Falls.
@golftragic yes the roof was fine. David checked it yesterday. A frirnd lost a few tiles though and another ended up with a pole from a small catamaran pierced through their roof. Another pal lost s fence.
@paulaw No we don't have water butts on our property we avoid anything that attracts mozzies! They reckoned that the storm only lasted about 20 minutes and was bigger than a tornado and smaller than a cyclone so somewhere in between. It caused such a lot of damage though. SES and other emergency workers are still clearing up the damage mainly caused by falling trees
I love Birubi Beach.
