Photo club tonight so won’t get chance to catch up with photos I’m afraid. Always seems to be something going on here at the moment. I will try and catch up right now while I am having a cup of tea before we go out. We always eat out before club night, so at least I don’t have to cook dinner tonight.
Today’s picture is of a currawong who has been visiting regularly lately, along with his missus,
looking for food and I have been feeding them raw mince. At first they were very timid, but they are getting braver, although when the kookaburra’s arrive they are very wary and you can guess who gets to the meat first if the currawong’s don’t catch the meat as I throw it in the air. You can tell who is the boss in our garden.
Sometimes lately though the male currawong has been taking meat straight from my hand. David isn’t as brave as me because currawong’s beaks are huge, but Mr Currawong takes the meat so gently from my hand. He even let me get really close up with the camera to take a photo of him.
Currawong’s are between 42 cm and 50 cm in size (16 to 19 inches) and they are my favourite Australian birds.
Whenever they arrive David says “Your familiar is here”. For those who have been following me for a while, you will realize that we are getting back to the witch in a previous life story. I think it is time to turn David back into a frog again for a while, ha ha.
@elaine55 Thanks so much Elaine. A bit late now. I am just checking out 365 while I have a cuppa before bed. Got 3rd place for my theme photo tonight. David got first. Keep it in the family!
@wordpixman Thanks Arthur. I just love currawong's they are my favourite bird here in Australia.
@beryl Thanks Beryl. Yes they are crow family but they have white on their wings and tail.
@sioux Oh dear. I feel like that about kookaburra's too, when one took off with a baby blue tongue lizard. I still feed them though sometimes. I suppose everything eats something. We catch fish and eat them.
@iwatts Thanks so much Ian. Haven't seen you around for a while, hope you are okay. Yes currawong's are crow family, but their eye is a different colour and they have white on their wings and tail. They have a beautiful song too.
oh Babs he is a stunner - I adore them - I have found that often the birds with the scariest beaks are the gentlest to feed - it is all in the shape too
@quietpurplehaze Thanks so much Hazel. I am trying to catch up tonight for a little while, but I am so tired. Been out all day with our local U3A and I am getting a bit cross eyed now. Will be in bed soon. night night.
@gamelee Thanks so much Lee. I love the detail on the eye too. A nature photographer friend of mine once said, "Get the focus on the eye and the rest just falls into place". Hope I have done his words justice with this shot.

So sorry for the group reply again, but we were out last night and out all day today too. I will be catching up on your photos tomorrow, but I am so tired tonight. Just had a lovely bath and soon off to bed.
I just spotted tonight that this photo and my Camel Train photo are both on the trending page and the popular page. Thank you all so much for voting for them with your lovely comments and fav's.
Babs, so very well done for both. Congrats!!!
