I have spent a great deal of today at a friends house and we waded our way through hundreds of the Jamie Oliver's garden stickers (which anyone in Australia will know all about). My pal had two of the books and hadn't had chance to sort through the stickers, so I volunteered to help her. What a job. We still had some missing stickers and then went to Woolworths to do a swap for the ones we were missing. Hope the grandchildren appreciate all our effort.
Consequently I haven't taken any photos today so this is one I took at the Powerhouse Museum when we were in Sydney.
On the television screen at the left of this picture they were showing clips from the movie Strictly Ballroom and on the right are the costumes they wore. I stood for ages trying to get to the clip which showed them wearing the clothes seen on the right, at the same time kicking people out of the way who were walking in front of the screen and the costumes (only kidding about that bit, I just said 'can you move please I'm trying to take a photo'). Kindly!!!
The picture on the left isn't too clear but I hope you can see Paul Mecurio and Gia Carides dancing. Sorry about the glare from the lights on the screen but I couldn't help that.
very cool - I have photos of the costumes from Titanic that Leo and Kate wore - will have to look for them - did you get the stickers you were missing?
Babs, I love Strictly Ballroom the movie and I recently saw the stage show which was great fun too. I must be one of the few people who do not know about the Jamie Oliver stickers. Fab shot btw.
@annied Thanks Annie, yes we did get the missing stickers. Judith had so many of them and we filled three books for three grandchildren and swapped the few we were missing at Woolies. What a day. I think I need a lie down now. ha ha.
@elaine55 Best not to know Elaine. It has been a thing that all the kids have been collecting, the stickers in Woolworths, over the last couple of months. It finishes today and Judith and I had to sort through all the stickers she had collected for her grandchildren. she hadn't had chance until today because she has been in Sydney. We had to go to Woolworths to do some swaps, but managed to get three full sets.
I'm sure the kids will appreciate your hard work. Great shot, it's a real piece of Australian film history. Its a bit of a pity that Paul is stuck doing insurance ads now.
Love those costumes, and I can remember going to see the movie. And guess what I'm doing after 365 - yes, putting those Jamie Oliver stickers in a book for Matt! Perhaps I should hire you to come and do it seeing as now you are an expert!
Ah, I can imagine how happy they will be when they get their sticker collection! I know when I was little how excited I would get over a sticker collection! Lovely shot here and talk about beautifully designed costumes! x
The wonder of 365 is that sometimes I have no clue what someone is talking about. This is one of those moments. What are the pictures on the stickers? Not familiar with this dancing pair but sound wonderful.
@elaine55 Babs I am confused as well - not sure what Jamie Oliver and gardens have in common unless you are not talking about "our" Jamie Oliver the cook? Woolworths is also a long lost name here in the UK, a high street institution with one on every high street but they went bust about 5 years ago
@kathiecb@angelar@happypat@scarybird@paulaw Sorry I should perhaps explain more about the stickers. This may help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89Jx6PD-FWI
Jamie Oliver has put together a book about gardening and growing veggies and cooking etc and you collect 128 stickers and put them in the book in the appropriate place. For every $20 you spend you get 4 stickers (although Woolies give you extra stickers sometimes) and you can go into the store to swap any doubles you have. The kids love it and I have collected two sets for some of my grandchildren. Judith had a lot of people collecting for her and she had hundreds of stickers but hadn't had chance to sort them and put them in order of numbers so I went to her house to put the stickers in order ready for her grandchildren to stick into the books. We got 3 sets with just a few numbers missing and got the ones we were missing swapped in Woolworths, so quite a day.
Woolworths by the way is a supermarket chain here and the same as Safeway (don't know if Safeway is still in the UK though). or Sainsbury's
@lpot1985 Yes Lee we do tend to pinch some of your English place names we have got quite a few including Anglesey, Gloucester, Stroud, Singleton. I could go on. The early settlers named the places after the English places they had come from because it reminded them of 'home'
@karlow75@hermann@888rachel@lilminimonka Thanks everyone. I hadn't planned for Judith having so many of the stickers, it took ages to put the numbers in order and then we had to swap the ones we had missing at Woollies. I had already collected two sets for my grandchildren so was an expert on putting them in order. Sorry Rachel though I am not volunteering to help anyone else. We didn't put the stickers in the book we just sorted them into the correct number order. That was enough. I was ready for a lie down when we had finished ha ha.
@kwind@tonygig@pcoulson@loweygrace Thanks so much. It was quite a challenge to get this photo, but under the circumstances I was pleased with the result.
@eyesmile@gigiflower@golftragic Thanks so much. I enjoyed the movie too Sam.
I don't think I ever want to see another Jamie Oliver sticker. I think I got feathers in my wing though for helping out my pal. Maybe I may even manage two wings one day.
