It has been a very hot day here today so I thought I would have lazy day and filter my way through and organize my photos from last year. While I was doing that I came across this one, a version of which I posted on 365 last year and thought I would have a play with this one. This is the result.
The story behind this is that I wandered down to the foreshore to take a photo of the sunset through my crystal ball, but when I got there I was setting the ball up on one of the picnic tables at the beach when two girls wandered into my picture. They apologised, but I thought there was an opportunity here so asked them to pose for me and they would appear in the ball. One version of this as I said I posted last year, but I thought I would flip this shot and then put the two together.
Both girls in this shot are local and their Mum was with them at the beach and I got copies of the photo printed and gave it to them. They were really pleased with it.
Thanks so much to everyone for the amazing response to my photo yesterday and thanks for putting it on the Trending Page and the PP. I am gobsmacked!
@gigiflower Thanks for the fav Sam. Yes the other one was a bit different though although not much. http://365project.org/onewing/365/2014-08-13
Don't know about any tips. I think it is just trial and error. Perch the ball on something solid and then just line up the camera until you have a decent shot. Keep the sun off to the side or behind you if you can unless of course you are taking a sunset after the sun has gone down.
You do get some weird looks off people as you walk around in public carrying a crystal ball in your hand, lining up a photo, but you get used to that and you begin to recognise the van with the men in their white coats when it turns up too and you pack up and run at that point.
My only advice is just give it a go. Look forward to the photos.
@gigiflower@gigiflower I just have an advanced compact Lumix FZ100 so no choice on lens, but the exif says focal length 4 mm which on your DSLR would probably mean that you need a lens that you can set to about 16 mm, I think that is if my maths is right. I believe it all depends on the size of the sensor.
Wow Babs this is fabulous. I haven't got a crystal ball, although I'm psychic in other ways 😘. Anyway seeing this I think I need to add this to my wish list and I need to find out how to flip photos!!!!!
Stunning Fav
@denisefuller Thanks for the fav Denise. This crystal ball doesn't have any psychic powers I'm afraid, I bought it on eBay for $10 free postage from China a couple of years ago. (it is an 80 mm ball) You get what you pay for I suppose. The psychic ones probably cost more. ha ha.
Flipping photos is really easy. If you have Photoshop you open your photo click on Image/Image rotation/Flip vertically and there you have it.
@kevin365 Thanks for the fav Kevin. Sometimes you hate it when people walk into your picture, but in this case it worked really well. The kids had a great time posing for me.
Great shot with the crystal ball Babs, they are such fun, I plan to buy a 60 mm ball to compliment my 80 mm ball, and to try some pics with them together, not sure how it will go :))
@kathiecb Thanks Kathie, I thought you would like to see how we see the world. the top one is the Northern Hemisphere and how you see things and the bottom one is how we in the southern Hemisphere see the world. No wonder the blood rushes to my head.
I think I remember you posting this last year. I really like your new twist on it, it was already fantastic, this looks even better.
And it was lovely of you to get a copy for them too. You have a heart of gold.
Oh and fave for this too.
@karlow75@bella_ss Thanks so much. Yes this was one of the phogos I took last year. The earlier one was a slightly different pose though. This one the girls are just standing the last one they were playing at acrobats. They really got into the 'posing' for me and were great fun.
Great idea Babs really effective - I remember you posting this (amazing considering I can't remember what day it is most of the time!!) Congrats on the wonderful reaction to your shadows shot, it's wonderful and fully deserves all the comments and favs.
just spotted your wonderful photo Babs. I have a crystal ball which I have only tried out once at the beach over Christmas. We all seem to be a bit scared of using them. I have a small stand but I would rather see just the ball. Do you have any trouble making it stay still. big fav from me
