Playing with sand

What a day this has been. This morning I was at a U3A presentation, home for a quick lunch then out again this afternoon. Just got home again now, long enough to post today's photo, have a quick shower and then we are off out again for dinner tonight with friends. I will try and catch up with 365 tomorrow.

For four months each year Frankston waterfront is transformed as over 3,500 tonnes of sand is carved into spectacular sculptures. Each year there is a different theme and this year the theme is Friends, Foes and Super Heroes.

We decided to call in at Frankston while we were driving up the coast to our daughters when we were in Victoria recently.

As today is my usual Friday people day I thought I would post a photo of one of the sculptors at work touching up one of the artworks.

Over the next two days I will post collages of some of the Star Wars characters sculpted in sand. They really are amazing and such a lot of work goes into making the sculptures. Such a shame that after four months though they disappear, never to be seen again.

These sand artists are amazing and so patient. Great capture of him concentrating

These guys are just so clever! To even visualise what they want out of their pile of sand, and then make it happen.

March 28th, 2015
@paulaw @terryliv I shall have to look more closely before I crop a photo again, ha ha. although having said that when I looked at another photo of the same scene it didn't improve it by showing the whole picture.
March 28th, 2015
@happypat @quietpurplehaze I was told that they use builders sand which is much coarser than ordinary sand.
