Bushfire

I was going to post another photo of the sand sculptures today, but last night we were out for a meal with friends by the waterfront in Nelson Bay. As we were eating our meal we noticed smoke across the water. Very quickly the smoke turned into flames and this is a photo of the fire which flared up. Luckily the fire was put under control very quickly and I don't think any buildings were damaged.

This isn't the best picture in the world but you can see the flames across the bay.

The fire was about one and a half km from where we were and very close to the inner light lighthouse and marine rescue. Luckily there was no damage to the building.

I don't know if the fire was deliberately lit or what the cause was. No doubt it will be on the news this evening.
A bit close for comfort.. but pleased those trusty firemen put it out quickly.. lets hope it was not deliberately lit..

Oh dear .....I don't like the lok of that! Wondering if there is a tree break around the towns to stop fire spreading into major towns & suburbs. I know houses do get burnt down in the country but the fires neverr seem to get to very large towns thank goodness.

Sorry for the group reply again. I have tried to catch up a bit with 365 this morning, but we are out for lunch now at our regular wine tasting sessions. Should find out about the update on the fire situation there I suppose as a couple of our group do voluntary work at the marine rescue.

Great shot Babs. Scary how quickly a fire can take hold.
March 29th, 2015
@loweygrace @eyesmile @sioux Thanks. Yes we were amazed how quickly it took hold too. We were sitting at a restaurant on the wharf and saw smoke and then minutes later there were huge flames. Lucky that the fire department were there so quick.
