Collecting Mulch by onewing

Collecting Mulch

From classy motorbikes, to classy camper vans, and now David's old Subaru and rather tatty trailer. ha ha.

Today's Friday people photo, taken a couple of weeks ago, is of David collecting free mulch for the garden.

A few months ago you may remember we had a huge east coast low here in the Bay, resulting in hundreds of trees being felled. As a result of that the Council decided to mulch the trees and leave the mulch for anyone to collect free of charge.

As I said we collected a trailer load a couple of weeks ago and then went back again on Wednesday for another load. All we have to do now is to put it on the flower beds.

I think this will be the last trip for the trailer as it is rather rusty and we are getting a new one soon.

I've had a long day today and this weekend is our photo club's annual photography exhibition. We are going down tonight to set it all up.

Not sure how much I will be doing though as I have a splitting headache at the moment and also my irregular heartbeat is making me really tired at the moment. Hopefully should get the results of the tests on Tuesday and see where we go from there.

Will check out 365 now while I am having a cuppa and then will catch up again tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the 'Wicked Camper' yesterday.
Ooh, I wish we had access to that mulch! The garden could do with it and it's hellish expensive to buy the amount that we would need.

Looks as though he is really busy, you are really out of sorts at the moment how is the arm coming on.

Wow that is good of the council .. good to take advantage of these things..

A great idea by the council. I hope you feel better soon, and fingers crossed for your test results.

Aaah, I can smell that mulch. Send us a bunch Babs, my garden here could do with it!. I really hope your results come back soon with some good news.

Someone has to do the hard work :)
October 16th, 2015
Sounds like you need to take it easy for a bit Babs. Take care of yourself.
October 16th, 2015
Sounds like a forward thinking council you have there Babs. Do take care of yourself, an irregular heartbeat can leave you feeling flat as a tack. :)
October 16th, 2015
Love to see a man at work! Great capture Babs, I hope you're feeling better.
October 16th, 2015
Well done, David. Ray would be there like a flash! Take care, Babs.

Cool candid capture. I hope you feel better, Babs. Take care of yourself.
October 16th, 2015
Great capture, light/shadows
October 16th, 2015
Good old David, hard at work while someone is on the easy end of the camera. Neat capture, can you email me some mulch.
October 16th, 2015
That was a great solution to create and offer up the mulch. Hang in there...hope you are back to your old self soon!
October 16th, 2015
I hope that isn't your fork waiting there Babs ....I expect it is though! No forking with an irregular heartbeat! A great opportunity to get some mulch.....I remember that storm when you were without electricity for days!
October 16th, 2015
Well it is nice that they are giving it away like this
October 16th, 2015
Makes a change to get something for nothing and not be charged the earth.
October 16th, 2015
Great shot Babs.
October 16th, 2015
@salza There is tons of mulch at various places, so we could be supplied free for a while.
October 16th, 2015
@hermann Thanks Sal and tell me about it, yesterday I felt like a piece of chewed string, ha ha. Not too bad today though.
October 16th, 2015
@happypat No Pat that isn't my fork, but just by David's shovel you can see a rake and another spade and I was doing some shovelling with the spade. Oops! My heart was okay but my wrist was a bit sore by the time I'd finished even though I put the splint on my wrist to stop the movement too much. No hope for me is there, ha ha.

@365projectorgchristinewebb @julzmaioro @888rachel @beryl @gigiflower @happysnaps @sioux @gilbertwood @merrelyn @thistle @quietpurplehaze @mittens @seattlite @taffy @bkbinthecity @shirleybankfarm @tonygig Thanks everyone and I am feeling much better today. Yesterday was a long day and I was pretty tired. We helped set up our photo club exhibition last night and it is on this weekend. We are calling in for the start of it this morning and then off to a festival at Raymond Terrace. Not on duty at the exhibition till tomorrow.
I think lots of people will benefit from the free mulch for a while. There are mounds of it at various places around the Bay

The council did that in Townsville after the last cyclone. It's a great way to recycle those trees. Sorry to hear you've had some health problems, hope it all turns out to be a simple fix. Maybe a pacemaker? My mother in law has one and has been so much better since.
October 16th, 2015
@ladymagpie Thanks Heather. I did do some of the shovelling too, but not quite as much as David did. Luckily the day wasn't too hot, just around 25 degrees C I think. I tried emailing some mulch, but they said the email was over 20 megs so it wouldn't go.
October 16th, 2015
What a great idea, sounds like hard work though!
October 16th, 2015
What a great idea. And a council that is willing to give away free mulch? Fantastic.
October 17th, 2015
Looks like you're keeping him busy Babs. I wouldn't mind some free mulch myself, my garden's due for its annual mulch.
October 17th, 2015
@paulaw Definitely hard work Paula. Nothing is for free really is it.
October 17th, 2015
@karlow75 @golftragic Thanks. There is tons of it. On our way home this afternoon we saw mounds and mounds of mulch on Nelson Bay Road. It will be supplying people in free mulch for months I should think.
October 17th, 2015
Enjoy gardening and I hope you feel better soon.
October 17th, 2015
what a wonderful idea to leave the mulch for people to help themselves. Hard work though shovelling it in and then out of the trailer. Hope you get your health problem sorted out on Tuesday
October 18th, 2015
Good shot of his efforts...
October 18th, 2015
@cruiser Thanks Chris. I hope I get 'sorted' on Tuesday too, ha ha. Have had irregular heartbeat for a while, maybe my new doctor will find a solution.
October 18th, 2015
@eyesmile Thanks Gena. I did some of the shovelling too, but my wrist suffered afterwards. glutton for punishment aren't I. ha ha.
October 18th, 2015
@onewing Lucky you!! It's fairly pricey round here.
