Gone But Not Forgotten by onewing

Gone But Not Forgotten

Another photo from our Newcastle outing on Monday.

This is a rather sad scene. The rail link into Newcastle was closed on the 25th December 2014.

I rather think that the developers want to get their hands on prime real estate and the rail link was getting in the way of their plans.

There were lots of protests against the closure, but unfortunately the line still closed.

You can see the station behind the sign and I hope they at least turn it into some form of museum, because there is a lot of history here.
Such a shame when facilities like this close in spite of public opinion

And this is supposed to be progress, unfortunately communities are not listened to or considered :)

what a shame. Always sad when things like his go in the name of "progress"

I do hope they at least keep the building if they decide to develop the site.

I think your right there Babs.. they use any excuse

Lovely shot, Babs. Such a shame about the line. Hate when City Hall (or its equivalent) rides rough shod over us all.

hmm, that is a bit sad.

Neat shot...politics not listening to the people

A beautiful piece of advertising, nonetheless.

Excellent capture, Babs.

So sad when these train lines close, lovely poster capture.

What a shame things have to change sometimes, nice capture of the colourful sign, and hopefully something pootive will come of it.

Nice capture and record of something that is being sent into history. Shame when the big boys nudge out things like this for their own greed.

Such a shame to not use that fantastic looking building, lets hope the protesters win the day and the iron railway returns to Newcastle Babs:)

Sounds the way all good things go if they are in the way Babs! You either need transport or you don't & for the people that do its a lifeline. Building seems to be the most important thing for those in charge!

Too bad it closed!

I'll never understand why they close down railways...very sad
January 15th, 2016
That is such a pity, I think I remember you posting an image and writing about it at the time. The image itself has a real appeal.

AH so sad but lovely capture and so interesting.

It's supposed to be making way for the light rail Babs. I won't go on train to Newcastle as it takes too long. My husband has fond done work to do with this project. I also heard on the news last night that a Chinese congolmorate wants to build a high speed link from Sydney to Newcastle. 45 mins to get there.

Very sad when this happens
January 16th, 2016
Excellent capture, these things happen all the time...Sad.

@thistle @hermann @cruiser @karlow75 @deborah63 @chrysanthemum @pusspup @pusspup @seattlite @quietpurplehaze @mittens @ladymagpie @craftymeg @shirleybankfarm @pcoulson @happypat @kwind @maree_sanderson @paulaw @pippie @bkbinthecity @happysnaps Thanks everyone. They have been trying to revitalise Newcastle for a while and every plan seems to fail, so the latest venture is to get rid of the trains and put light rail in instead.

@elaine55 Yes I know about the light rail Elaine, but Newcastle is so slow, I can't see it working somehow.
also I can't see a high speed train working between Campbelltown and Newcastle either, the terrain just doesn't lend itself to high speed trains. Far too hilly. They would have to build lots of tunnels. I don't think the Chinese have much difficulty in bulldozing current houses, roads, etc though. I also think the $25 billion dollars estimate is probably a bit conservative too.

Can never really understand why they close railway lines.
January 16th, 2016
That's so sad!!

@onewing i so detest how greed has overtaken - it isn't progress anymore it is ruination so the greedy can prosper
