The house on the left of the picture is called Jesmond House. You can only see part of it in this picture, but it is a magnificent house built in 1875. It is one of the best properties in Newcastle I think.
Lovely point of view, lighting and depth of field you can see for Miles, great image, checked the link very interesting how much would it cost in 2016 Babs:)
@shirleybankfarm There is an area called Jesmond in our Newcastle too, it is about 6 km from The Hill where this photo was taken. Maybe that is why the house was called Jesmond House.
I do love Newcastle Babs. I was their a few years for work commitments so didn't have much time to look around. But some of the old housing architecture is beautiful.
It's a majestic building and looks like it enjoys an enviable position atop that hill with it's wonderful views. I can see why you like the view from your vantage point.
@helenhall Fancy that Helen. This is a suburb of Newcastle called The Hill and the suburb of Jesmond is about 5 miles from here. I wonder if that is why the large house was called Jesmond House. Maybe the original owner came from Jesmond.
A lot of our towns and cities have names that originate in the UK. Newcastle was named because of the steel and coal industry I believe after Newcastle on Tyne.
@onewing Oh definitely (not). A lifetime friend of mine is an Anglican clergyman's daughter. Apparently one of those very grand great lumps in Queenscliff used to be a holiday/rest house for clergy and families. It's now in private hands, but when we were down there last year my friend got all nostalgic and, very politely, knocked on the door, explained, and asked if she could see inside. Result? Not on your nelly!
