The Hill - Newcastle by onewing

The Hill - Newcastle

I just love this view of Newcastle from The Hill.

The house on the left of the picture is called Jesmond House. You can only see part of it in this picture, but it is a magnificent house built in 1875. It is one of the best properties in Newcastle I think.

Here is a link to the history of the house.

It was sold in 2008 to a Newcastle businessman for $7million.

We have been out all day today and I am out again this evening too so won't be able to catch up until later this evening or tomorrow evening.

Another busy day tomorrow too.
beautiful view Babs. Dont know how you keep up the pace!

Looks a very picturesque town. There is an area in Our Newcastle called Jesmond, I wonder if that is where the house got it's name.

@pcoulson Thanks Peter. Yes definitely a $7 million dollar view from the top of the tower at Jesmond house I should think.
April 6th, 2016
@shirleybankfarm There is an area called Jesmond in our Newcastle too, it is about 6 km from The Hill where this photo was taken. Maybe that is why the house was called Jesmond House.

@jackie8 Thanks Jackie, it was a beautiful day, about 28 degrees I think. Not bad for autumn.

I do love Newcastle Babs. I was their a few years for work commitments so didn't have much time to look around. But some of the old housing architecture is beautiful.

Wonderful vantage point for your shot. Looks like a lovely day.

Interesting to see your Newcastle. My Mum was a Geordie - from our UK Newcastle and born in the area called Jesmond.

It's a majestic building and looks like it enjoys an enviable position atop that hill with it's wonderful views. I can see why you like the view from your vantage point.

@deborah63 I love visiting Newcastle too. So many photo opportunities.
April 7th, 2016
@helenhall Fancy that Helen. This is a suburb of Newcastle called The Hill and the suburb of Jesmond is about 5 miles from here. I wonder if that is why the large house was called Jesmond House. Maybe the original owner came from Jesmond.
A lot of our towns and cities have names that originate in the UK. Newcastle was named because of the steel and coal industry I believe after Newcastle on Tyne.
April 7th, 2016
@golftragic Not a bad $7 million dollar view is it. Do you think if I knocked on the door the owner would let me go up in the tower to take a photo.
April 7th, 2016
@onewing if anyone could get away with this ,you could! Super shot.
April 7th, 2016
@onewing Oh definitely (not). A lifetime friend of mine is an Anglican clergyman's daughter. Apparently one of those very grand great lumps in Queenscliff used to be a holiday/rest house for clergy and families. It's now in private hands, but when we were down there last year my friend got all nostalgic and, very politely, knocked on the door, explained, and asked if she could see inside. Result? Not on your nelly!
