Fort Scratchley by onewing

Fort Scratchley

Another shot from Newcastle. We were walking back from Nobby's lighthouse when I decided to take a photo of the fort which is on top of the hill. If you look closely you can just about see one of the guns.

It was at Fort Scratchley where we went to the Music of the Guns a few weeks ago. The performance ended with the Army Band playing the 1812 overture and the firing of the guns.
the 1812 must have sounded wonderful with the big guns firing...been really enjoying you Newcastle pics...interesting place... :o)

@maree_sanderson @pcoulson Yes the 1812 was fabulous with the guns firing and also they put the searchlight on the cathedral which is just to the right of the fort and the bells from the cathedral can be heard in the mix too.
April 8th, 2016
@happysnaps Yes Valerie that is one of the guns next to the flag.
April 8th, 2016
@365projectorgsebgritt Thanks Sebastian, it was pretty warm, about 32 degrees C I believe that day, not bad for autumn.

@novab Thanks Nova, it is a great place to explore, you can go down into the tunnels under the fort too. Great spot and lots of history.

@chimfa ha ha, you can take the girl out of the military but you can't take the military out of the girl.

@craftymeg Thanks Margaret, the only thing is, it is the middle of autumn in this shot, not summer. Still good weather though, will get colder soon I should imagine. About 32 degrees c this day I believe.
