It is Anzac Day here in Australia and New Zealand today and I thought it would be fitting to post this street art which is outside the old Post Office building in Newcastle.
The words from Requiem for a Soldier seem quite appropriate too.
You never lived to see
What you gave to me
One shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty
With a host of brave unknown soldiers
For your company, you will live forever
Here in our memory
In fields of sacrifice
Heroes paid the price
Young men who died for old men's wars
Gone to paradise
We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you'll see we can live together
When all the world is free
Thanks for sharing the Requiem for a Soldier with us Babs, I have never heard it before, its a fitting tribute to all our soldiers who fought for our freedom.:)
A lovely shot. When I saw this shot, I remember taking some too and thinking I would put it up for Anzac Day. I have a terrible memory! Very fitting for the day.
@annied Thanks Annie. I have attended a lot of these type of events over the years being a military wife, so this year I just got on with the painting instead.
@888rachel I was wondering if you were going to use it for Anzac Day. You will have to put the picture in a 'fillers' folder and post it on November 11.
@ethelperry Absolutely correct, an ongoing tragedy. Pity the head honchos of the disputing parties don't fight each other one-on-one and get the whole thing over with quickly and with minimum fuss, bother and blood.
@ethelperry I always think that they are the ones responsible so they should wear the cost. There are so many other good things for our young people to do rather than fight each other.
