I thought I would post photos today of some of the outbuildings at Tocal Homestead and put them in a triptych.
The top left picture is of the Stone Barn. The Stone Barn is one of Tocal’s oldest buildings and was constructed in stages. The first stage was in 1830. At this time about 34 convicts were living and working at Tocal, including a convict stonemason named Dennis Long who would have played a vital role in the barn's construction.
The bottom left photo is of Thunderbolt's Cottage. Thunderbolt’s Cottage was built about 1835 and derives its name from the oral tradition which says that Fred Ward lived in this cottage while working at Tocal in the 1850s. Ward went on to become the notorious bushranger Captain Thunderbolt.
The photo on the right is the other side of the Stone Barn.
