Wiggly Worm by onewing

Wiggly Worm

Thanks so much for all your lovely comments and favs for my steel wool light painting shot yesterday and also your good wishes for David.

It has been a long day today with an early start and a 180 km round trip to the hospital and home again. His surgery went well and I think we are both going to have an early night tonight.

I did manage to catch up on some of your photos while I was waiting at the hospital and will catch up again when I get chance.

Here is another photo from our light painting session at the beach a couple of nights ago.

This is fairy lights wrapped around a bicycle tyre that you make dome light painting pictures with, but because we were at the beach, of course, the wheel wouldn't spin so we just did movement and twirling photos with the wheel. I think it looks quite good and a nice effect.

Very effective! Love it. Glad the hospital trip went well.

@stephanies This is basically the idea on how to make the set up for a dome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZEZG7koMNY
We used fairy lights just stuck around a wheel with tape and made a wooden spindle to put in the centre of the wheel.
This of course isn't a dome, we just twirled the wheel in the air up and down to create the worm. Hope this helps. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube that show how to do domes.

June 29th, 2017
Thanks for the link Babs, I watched the video, but it is too complicated for me as the wheel on my bike is attached and I can't be bothered to dismantle it etc. It gave me an idea though, so thanks for that :)

A beautiful light art drawing. Very creative. fav.
June 29th, 2017
Stunning!
June 29th, 2017
Very cool- our club is doing this in July (in a field not at the beach) so it's given me some great ideas! We have done the steel wool a couple of times, but we're not able to go back to the spot we used to use. We need to find another location. Great shot! Get well wishes to David.

Sorry for the group reply again but it was a long day yesterday and I was shattered by last night.
David is fine and is having a rest day today. Surgery went well with good results.
It never ends here. I am in hospital on Tuesday for surgery. We seem to be spending a lot of time at the moment between hospitals and home. We do manage to fit some fun things in the mix too though.

@onewing What a bloody pest for you. Email me when you feel up to it.
June 30th, 2017
@golftragic I will.
June 30th, 2017
@jorlam @pcoulson I look forward to your steel wool shots. Brave of you Jormam to volunteer. I wasn't game to give it a try. No photographers were injured though during the steel wool shots.
Maybe you would also be interested in trying some light painting dome shots too.
Here is a link to how they are made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZEZG7koMNY
Of course we didn't spin the tyre on the sand, instead we just held it and twirled as we walked along.
I am sure Peter would be able to make a tyre dome. We used fairy lights and stuck them to the edge of the tyre with tape and then made a wooden spindle and stuck it on the centre of the tyre. Nothing as technical as the demo here, but it works fine.
June 30th, 2017
@onewing Thank you for the link Babs very interesting a simple concept nothing to difficult to manufacture, I will be giving it a go when the dark nights are back so plenty of time to make the rig, have a look at the link Jorlam @jorlam I'm sure we can make some pretty light displays between us with this method:)
June 30th, 2017
@onewing Babs i'm certain we (Peter and i) will manage.. i'm game for many things, as long as it is on the ground.. i'm not up to climbing anymore the back doesn't allow it.. :-)

@pcoulson Peter, i've already had a look at the vid and decided we could do this too.. the end of September should see the sun going down about 7-ish so we should have time to play.. i'm looking forward to it.. 😊
