For as long as I can remember my Mum had a Crown of Thorns plant in a pot on the kitchen window sill and shortly after I got married she brought me a cutting of the plant. I always had a Crown of Thorns in our many houses in the UK, but of course, when we moved overseas the plant was given to a friend.
A few months ago I finally spotted a Crown of Thorns in Bunnings and bought one. It now sits on our patio in a terracotta pot and has flowered continuously ever since I bought it.
As today is Good Friday, it seems appropriate to post this photo.
@nicolecampbell I think its proper name is Euphorbia milii commonly known as crown of thorns or Christ thorn.
We are having a lovely quiet Easter thanks.
I hadn't been aware of the blant, and was going to ask why on earth it was called that, but then I saw the crown of thorns. Most appropriate for today.
@onewing there is another flower that depicts the crown of thrones & I couldn't think of its name last nigh but remembered this morning. Passion Flower!
@beryl Thanks for your Easter blessings Beryl, but I have no idea who John is, my husband is called David and I haven't traded him in as far as I can remember. haha
We are having a lovely quiet Easter thanks.
It`s a bit of an old fashion plant in our country. The Dutch name = Christendoorn = Thornhead of Christ.
The flowers on the crown of thorns are supposed to depict the blood of Christ and the thorns the crown he wore when he was crucified.
