Juvenile Pied Butcher Bird? by onewing

Juvenile Pied Butcher Bird?

I took this photo last week but didn't post it until now. Yesterday Sally @hermann posted a photo of an adult pied butcher bird and I was wondering if this youngster was also a pied butcher bird. Can anyone identify it for me please?

Thanks so much to everyone for putting yesterday's Little Beach Sunset on the TP and the PP.
@hermann What do you think Sal, is this a young pied butcher bird?

or a baby magpie...young butcher birds tend to be browner

@pusspup You could be right, it did look too big for a pied butcher bird and it was quite a long way off. It was very young. Well spotted.

@onewing Gee, not too sure Babs, it could be a little maggie but it's beak has a little barb. It's a lovely shot :)

Just a sweet little bird, I wonder if it can fly?

Good shot

It seems to be in a strange place. Is this a nest? Or is he learning to fly.

@louannwarren @henrir I think it was his first solo flight and he crash landed into this palm tree.

@hermann I am still not too sure either Sal. He does have that distinctive barb on his beak more than a maggie has, so maybe I am coming back to it being a pied butcher bird again.
He was very young and I think this was his first solo flight and he crash landed.

I think He's quite proud of his maiden flight.....now how to get out of here

@mave @merrelyn @ludwigsdiana @seattlite @kwind @mittens @thistle @julienne1 @craftymeg @tonygig @carolmw @megpicatilly @cmp @bkbinthecity @casablanca @happypat @elisasaeter @taffy @suzanne234 Thanks, I still can't decide whether it is a baby pied butcher bird or a baby magpie. It does have a hook on its beak that both birds have but the magpies hook isn't as bent as a butcher bird so I am coming to the idea that it is a baby Australian magpie. Pity his Mum wasn't close by to solve the problem. I think this was his maiden flight and he crash landed. I am sure his Mum will turn up soon and find him though.

Too bad birds aren't more "global"- haha. I'd pull out my books and go researching for you. But alas- the northern hemisphere birds are much different from their southern counterparts! Good shot!
