Newcastle Without the Tower by onewing

Newcastle Without the Tower

Thanks so much for putting yesterday's Mangrove in a Spin on the TP and the PP.

On Monday we were in Newcastle for the day and drove to Stockton where we caught the ferry across the water to the centre of Newcastle.

I have only just managed to go through the photos taken in Newcastle.

Here you can see Newcastle across the Hunter River and one thing missing is the Queen's Wharf tower which was demolished a few months ago. You do have a clearer view of the cathedral now, but it is sad that the tower has been removed.

If you look very carefully you may be able to spot the green and yellow ferry boat on the other side of the river.

In the link below you can see the tower when it was still intact.

We are out this evening so I won't be able to catch up with your photos until later.
I well remember that tower, what a shame. Love the view, but it's not the same.

Aww- we loved that tower - and it looks quite different without it. We remember reading something about them demolishing it but can't remember the details...

Lovely shot and thank you for the explanation.

Nice cityscape, always good to get the background as well!

I learn so much about your area from your photos. I wonder how this would look with a letterbox crop?

The cathedral does look majestic in this shot. Sorry for the tower.

Lovely shot across the water Babs.

A lovely scene

It looks so different without that phallic tower

It's a shame that tower was demolished :)

Looking for the ferry boat on the other side gives great size comparison to everything here. It sure is a beautiful view!

Well it does look very different & I think I prefer it without the tower. A lovely clear shoreline. It looks a bit choppy!

Great scene and capture.

Fascinating to see the change in the skyline

A great line view on the city between two wonderful blue layers.

I can't remember the tower. We won't be going back to Newcastle anytime soon now that both Rob's parents have passed on.
April 10th, 2019
Shame the tower has gone, interesting to see the before and after views though.

It is a strange feeling to see a city sky line change like that. I still picture the Twin Towers in the NYC skyline even with the new Freedom Tower there now. It just doesn't seem like the same city. Good shot.

Wonderful tack sharp image. Really strange without the tower (thanks for including the link). Kind of unnerving.

@robz It was demolished in September last year. The walkway went first and then they got rid of the tower because they said it would cost too much to fix it due to rust I think it was just the developers wanting it removed though as part of the 'revitalisation' of Newcastle.

@angelar I think it would have looked better with a letterbox crop to be honest Angela pity I didn't think of it at the time.

@golftragic @josiegilbert @peadar @sangwann @flowerfairyann @Dawn @kjarn @merrelyn @mittens @jenp @peterday @craftymeg @carolmw @tonygig @happypat @haskar @jacqbb @julienne1 @pyrrhula @inthecloud5 @olivetreeann @taffy sorry for the group reply, but got a splitting headache today.
I think the removal of the tower and walkway is because of the new light rail and the supposed 'revitalisation' of Newcastle. Not much evidence of it yet though, it all looks rather sad even though the light rail is running.

@nicolecampbell You won't be missing much Nicole it is rather flat at the moment. New high rises etc being built but I think the centre of Newcastle will just be residential and office space in the future.

Lovely view from there. We went to Newcastle once in 2004. It rained all day! Good to see it bathed in sunshine.

@chimfa It was 32 degrees c on Monday. Cooled down a bit now though.
