A few days ago Brennie @brennieb posted a photo and asked if anyone remembered tea cards. Yes I do and as you can see I still have the booklets we collected the cards in too.
Fancy you having those - I imagine this was quite a few years ago. Those booklets look like something a kid would have loved to fill -although I don't know how many kids collect things these days..... :)
Oh yes indeedy! Fabulous things. I still remember collecting Green Shield Stamps as well and we got our dining service and glasses a bit at a time that way.
This is a wonderful collection. I remember these cards and all sorts of other “collectibles “ . I have some very non pc golliwog badges from marmalade, Chivers I think.
I remember them well - wonderful way of educating the young mind ! I think I still have some of my "full" booklets - Animals of the world , Wild flowers , Birds , - to name but a few
@peadar We collect all sorts of things as yhou will have gathered.
@casablanca Yes I remember Green Shield Stamps too, but when I got married and lived in married quarters with the RAF we used to have Naafi stamps (similar to green shield) and we bought our fridge with Naafi stamps.
@susiemc I seem to be bringing back memories for people. I well remember the golliwog badges. They were with Robertsons jam and I had a whole collection of them when I was a kid.
@beryl You will have to photograph yuor collection Beryl and post it on 365, would love to see it.
Oh these bring back memories, shows my age, we used to get these in loose tea, also green shield stamps and golliwog badges from Robertson’s jam. The badges were very colorful and of course now are not PC, but in those days we were children and I was very innocent.
@carole_sandford Yes you could Carole, these are the books. Even our grandchildren have enjoyed looking at these books.
@pcoulson I didn't know they still did them until 1999.
@happypat Our grandchildren enjoy collecting even now and our supermarkets have collections of various things on occasion too and I collect for them now too.
@craftymeg Showing my age too. I used to collect the golly badges too.
I don't think we have them in the US although they look a lot like post cards to me. How big are they? And did they really come with tea? It's so fun to learn these things here on 365!
@olivetreeann These are pictures of the book covers. The tea cards themselves are about 2.5 inches x 1.5 inches and there are 50 cards in each book. Say for example the book is about butterflies, each card is a picture of a different butterfly and underneath the card is a description and details of the butterfly. They are so interesting and informative and kids just love collecting them.
Yes they did come with tea, when tea was sold in packets. Each packet of tea contained one card.
I used to collect them when I was a kid and so did my children too.
@ludwigsdiana @haskar @nicolecampbell @kjarn @pusspup It was a UK thing with the cards in packets of tea in the days when you could only get loose tea and not teabags.

@maggiemae Didn't have Weetbix in the UK.
