After a couple of days of extremely hot weather it has cooled down today to about 23 degrees c.
The cool change came through last night so we had a much better nights sleep. I did wake up about 5.30 am today though so after shopping this morning and then going to tai chi I am having a lazy afternoon.
Sounds like a plan. You're still a Yorkshire girl at heart, heat is a sapping thing. Nice shot of the lifeguards. They don't appear to have many customers!
@maggiemae@casablanca@pattyblue@sangwann The swimmers are off to the right of this shot. They are supposed to swim between the flags which you will see in a couple of days. It can be dangerous to swim outside the flagged areas because of rips in the ocean. Two children were rescued a couple of days ago because they swam outside the designated area and got caught in a rip.
I read your comment otherwise I would have said that lifeguarding is a good job when there is nobody to watch... Although Nadya enjoyed it more on busy days because time went quicker then.
We do have the occasional sharks the lifeguards have to watch out for too.
@beryl There were plenty of people about but they have to swim in a certain area of this beach because of rips and also shark attacks. The lifeguards may look as though there is nothing for them to do but they are kept busy believe me. There is an awful lot of beach to look after which is another reason swimmers have to stay within the flagged areas. Not all of them do though unfortunately.
Further along the beach there is a sandbar that at low tide you can walk across over to Shark Island and again we usually get one drowning a year because someone misjudges the tide.
@onewing Ha ! I understand - I even had forgotten what season it is down under just now ! Just took it as face value - blue sea , pop of red nd no one around - ha ! - sorry
@dutchothotmailcom They do have other lifeguards on duty at different areas of the beach. These two chaps are keeping an eye on the flagged area for swimmers just out of the picture. There are others further up the beach and also they have a tower at the surf lifesaving club building who look out for sharks http://365project.org/onewing/365/2020-07-20
if they have to clear the beach a siren is sounded. Also they have drones on certain days too, especially at weekends. It was quite early in the morning so not too many swimmers around and the surf wasn't very cooperative so no surfers here this day.
@merrelyn It was quite early and swimmers were off to the right. I just wanted to get a photo of the lifesavers with nobody else in the picture so I had to wait until there was nobody around.
I love this shot of the lifeguards on the empty beach, fav.

It's freezing cold in my part of the world...
