Haha, I know the feeling. I spent three and a half hours at a river today, in search for Dippers. Not one did I see, or a Kingfisher which I think is a very rare visitor there. The only birds I photographed were a pair of Grey Wagtails and to get those I waded out to a comfy rock in the middle of the river and let them fly around me, for nearly two hours.
There were a few strange comments coming from the riverside path as all the families on half term walks passed by me sat on the rock.
