Phnom Penh

photo 258
A monk sitting on a stupa at Wat Sarawan, one of the five first pagodas in Phnom Penh. The wat sits amongst art shops and stone sculptures and houses a rehabilitation and learning centre for the blind run by Maryknoll, a Catholic mission outreach organisation. The centre teaches, among other skills, Shiatsu massage and helped launch Seeing Hands, massage by Blind Cambodians, one of the most successful examples of an NGO-initiated project becoming self-sustaining.
I love that two of the major world religions can reside happily side by side for a common purpose.

This is a great shot. The gait/fence was too beautiful not to photograph (I love rustic things); the man behind it is an extra bonus :-)
