For my Mentoring Group. This week we are concentrating on B&W in natural light.
Another trip to the country park to see if the Dragonflies were still there. I was so pleased to get this shot - he was hovering in front of me checking me out.Converted to B&W using Nik Efex pro.
Please note I have replaced the original shot with an edited version to get the background white.

I wondered what this shot would look like in B&W. I have tried to get the background whiter - I will have a go in Picmonkey. I don't want to lighten it too much and loose the detail especially in the wings. I will be interested to see what you think.
I wonder if you went back to the color version, upped the blue saturation in PS and then did a selection by color, picking the blue and then brightened it? Just an idea but the delicacy, sharpness, straight on view, detail is awesome. fav
WOWZY!!!!! This is amazing! Getting this shot with it coming at you is quite a feat and it's intriguing to see it. I would play a tad with contrast but it may not be useful at all. I am thinking it might bring out detail in the wings. What a shot, though!! And great processing.
Amazing
Apologies for not commenting recently but there was entertainment every evening; wifi was sporadic in Dorset and the clutch on my car died an honourable death! All back to normal for. Few days so time to catch up.

This is the edited version of the dragonfly. I went right back to the original RAW file and started again. I increased the exposure straight away so the background went white before I put it into Nik Efex. That way the white stayed white not the blue turning grey. Do you think it has improved it?

I tried picmonkey but lost too much detail. I will put up the colour version for comparison.

Yes, this works better for me. For some reason, the grayish-blue felt 'off' for me which I attributed to contrast, but I think it was the purer white background.
