I took Finlay to the country park this morning as the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day for a walk. I thought I would have another go at ICM and rather liked the effect I got with this one.
Good news on the Mac front. I have sorted the email passwords out (fingers crossed!!) so that really helped. I then managed to download PS!! So I now have LR and PS all ready to go. I have not used the Mac for today's shots as I want to watch the tutorials before I start. I would love to set LR up properly this time so that everything is in its proper place. I know last time I started to use it I jumped in with no idea about organizing catalogues etc. Now I have used it for a while I think I might understand it better this time round. It feels good to be able to start afresh with LR. I also need to get the external hard drives and set it up for backups. No rush - I want to take it slowly and hopefully learn it all properly this time round!!
A big thank you to all of you who gave me such supporting comments yesterday - I do appreciate you all. I feel a lot better about it today. Still lots of boxes to open and so much to learn but I have made a bit of progress today!!
How lovely I have just spotted that this reached the PP! Thanks for getting it there!
Fabulous.....I need to put ICM on my 2016 to do list! Maybe we could have it as mentor group theme. Hmmm.....my LR catalogue is a mess. In Sept when I have more time I WILL figure it out....though it might be such a mess by then! I love this shot. Gorgeous
Pam, this is a really wonderful ICM result! Fantastic impressionist work of art. And SUCH good news on the mac front! Starting over with LR is a real gift of the new equipment. So many ways to do this too. My preference for now is catalogue on my computer so when I download and use smart preview I can work with photos anytime. Then, I keep all original photos (the LR folder) on a portable external drive that I usually carry with me when out and about with computer.
This is a terrific ICM shot Pam, very impressive indeed. I've never succeeded with any ICM I've tried, so I'll second Ruth's suggestion. Your photo is wonderfully colourful and a very strong abstract image. I find it most appealing. Definite fav.
PS forgot to say, so good to hear the good news on the Mac front too. I use a desktop and don't use my aged laptop much nowadays. But my system is still in the same vein as @taffy outlined, though I do keep my LR folder on the iMac - more storage space than a laptop. I have several XHD backups (for which I was very grateful during my computer dramas) and keep a whole bunch of photo stuff - some infrequently used brushes, textures, actions, digital-art resources, instruction videos etc on one dedicated XHD. That accumulation is very memory-hungry. Remember to sing out if I can help at all.
FAV for many reasons -- first, of course, because I like the way you captured stronger lines to keep the composition within your ICM; second, because you have a Mac solution; and third, because you inspire me with your desire to set up LR properly, my goal for year four of 365!
@taffy@golftragic@jyokota Thanks again for your encouragement with the Mac!! I am not rushing into the LR/PS - my challenge for 2016 plus I want to set up backups etc. before I start importing photos. Got the Thunderbolt screen connected (my nephew did it for me) and WOW what a fantastic screen it is too!! I am going to enjoy this whole new experience!!
This is beautiful!! FAV!! I am glad your computer problems are getting sorted out. LR is going to be my personal project for next year, too, so maybe we can set up a support system here for all of us! Oh, and I have found that once I tinker with things on the computer and turn it off, the next day everything seems to sort itself out somehow! So, don't despair....this is a great challenge!
