@taffy We have had a lovely day Taffy thank you. Just finished our Christmas dinner which was roasted gammon. I did turkey last Saturday for the family and couldn't face it again. A very relaxing day which we have both enjoyed!! Happy holidays to you and every one you are holidaying with. I hope you all have a wonderful day!!
Just like a movie playing through my mind, I envision you leaning into the wind as you reach the door, it nearly blows open as you step back inside, and...quiet! What a perfect place to hunker down, "cosy" (cozy) from the gale-force winds. So glad you enjoyed your dinner...but what's a gammon?
Well good thing I'm following @Weezilou in commenting because I can simply say, "what she said." "well." :) Enjoy the Christmas Cottage! We sadly left ours today.
@jyokota Welcome home safely, Junko! I suppose as you picked up your luggage and stepped outside it was one of those "I think we're not in Kansas anymore..." moments! Thank you and Taffy for entertaining us with your beautiful photos!
@Weezilou a gammon is a joint of ham which you can either boil or roast. So much more flavour than the packs of sliced ham you buy in the supermarket. People often have a joint of gammon to have cold on our Boxing Day along with the cold turkey. It's my favourite dinner with mashed potatoes, bubble and squeak and pickles. Now I am wondering if you know what bubble and squeak is? I love the difference in our language! Lol!
@jyokota safe journey home Junko! Prepare yourself for the cold again. I hope your neck is feeling better! What a beautiful place you have been staying!
Oh, I've heard of Bubble and Squeak, but no, I don't have any idea what it is! (We don't use the term "a joint of ham" either (and I don't think we'd boil it!) We'd just order "a ham", and if you want an exceptional ham, a Honey-Baked Ham is a favourite of many. There are stores around the country that sell only that (with some additional condiments!) A smoked ham would be a popular choice as well, but not as readily available. I would agree that "a proper ham" doesn't compare to packaged slices, but for a tasty and quick sandwich, I love just a few packaged slices with mayonnaise on (white) bread!
OK...now I'm hungry again...but I'm in a hotel and it's almost midnight...
@Weezilou bubble and squeak is the left over vegetables from your dinner - brussel sprouts, carrots etc mashed up and then mixed with freshly cooked mashed potatoes. Then fry the mixture in butter preferably and there you have bubble and squeak. This is always very popular on Boxing Day in my family.
@Weezilou@pamknowler the BEST part of christmas!!!! Bubble and squeal!!!!!! Yuuuuuuummmmmmmyyyyyyyyu!! We'll have ours sometime in january after our christmas dinner. We're all still off food here. Looks a wonderful spot
