George was hiding from me this afternoon as it was time for his anti histamine tablet and cream for his feet. He has developed an allergy to something and been licking and chewing his feet. This was the least of his problems!! He had his castration operation on Tuesday and came home with a lampshade plastic collar on. Within the hour he had gone mad in the garden and got it off. We were due back at the vets yesterday for a post op check up but on Wednesday evening he rolled over and I saw a bulge underneath near the operation site. I thought it was a hernia so first thing Thursday I phoned the vets to ask should I take him or wait until the next day's appointment. He was completely fine in himself and it wasn't bothering him at all - he was chasing and fighting with Finlay as per usual. The vet said bring him in on Friday which I did. Well it isn't a hernia but a swollen scrotum!! Vet said it was quite common after this operation. Rhona my breeder has never heard of it!! I am continuing with his anti inflammatory/painkiller and he goes back again next Thursday. The vet said it will eventually go down. Poor baby he has really been through the wars!! I have aged 10 years this week!!
Poor George! He is bothered but mama has aged! I was going to guess a hematoma and maybe a food allergy on the feet. George has the cutest face hiding from you! Hope it is smooth sailing going forward! Fav.
@joansmor I seem to have sailed through with Finlay - no problems at all. I used to think when people said Westies are known for their sensitive skin that they exaggerated. I am hoping George isn't going to be one of those sensitive dogs!!
A Finley lookalike. One of our two Mini Poodle Bichons has started licking and chewing his feet too. Vet gave us a spray to put on it. So farm so good.
Such a cutie. Sorry to hear that he's suffering with allergies.
I have heard of (and experienced) a dog suffering with a swollen scrotum post neutering and it does right itself fairly quickly. One of my male German Shepherds had some swelling post neutering but it was gone after around 48 hours.
Wonderfully wistful Westie!
Mitzi had an hour’s physio at the vet's this week as her right back leg skips a couple of steps due to crossed ligaments as a result of too much exercise when she was a puppy. She took it like a lamb and will have another session next month. Super vet,
This is such a cute shot.
