I have decided to have another go with my Panasonic Lumix FZ300 and see if I can get my head around the menu structure. I am off on holiday in October and would love to leave my heavy Canon 5D mark 11 behind along with all the very heavy lenses. It does make travelling difficult when you have to lug it all around with you along with my lap top and all the other bits and pieces we seem to need for our photography.
I was having trouble focusing on birds until I found the centre focus point this morning!! Anyway this starling posed for me and I took him into Topaz Textures to get rid of the messy background.
I will share with you some of my practice efforts and maybe shouting for help as I know some of you also have this camera.
He’s beautiful and perfectly in focus and I love your background edit. I hope you can take the lightweight with you, I understand your dilemma, as I take my “honker” Nikon on trips and it does get tiresome. I also have a “purse camera”, a small Canon that takes pretty good photos. Good luck with the LUMIX, I look forward to your photos.
Cracking image. We took an FZ200 (me) and an FZ1000 (him!) on our Australian trip because we didn't want to heft our big Canons around and now I've got used to it I rarely take the Canon out!
Graham Houghton does a few tutorials on the FZ300 on YouTube . If you put Graham Houghton FZ300 tutorial into Google you will find some of his tutorials, maybe he can help you.
Beautiful shot. It's hard to transition from one brand to another. The menus make no sense. Keep using your small one to adapt and you will. Maybe make a cheat sheet.
@onewing
I agree with Babs. His tutorials are excellent, even for figuring out how to set custom functions. We found his tutorials just searching using google. They seem very popular.
Great idea to take a lighter pack of gear Pam, after I bought my first Fujifilm mirrorless camera I kept my Canon 7Dii and lenses for over a year before I felt sure I'd never go back to them. Never regretted the change though.
@henrir@onewing@taffy Thanks all for your recommendation re Graham Houghton's tutorials. I have made a note of his name and this afternoon I will be sitting down to watch and hopefully learn!! In fact I have just realised that the User's Manual I bought last year and never opened is actually by Graham Houghton!! I love the light weight of the camera and am determined this time to get to grips with those menus and the touch screen.
