After many attempts at Intentional Camera Movemen (ICM) over the last year I finally managed to do it!! Yippee!! We went for a walk in the country park as the sun was actually shining this morning and I decided today was the day!! So pleased as I love this effect.
Many thanks for your lovely comments on my shot of Finlay looking out of the window. He was so pleased to get out today and was in his element running through the long grass and sniffing out the scent of foxes!! Good to be able to get out!!
3/1/14 just woken up to find this icm shot on the PP! I am blown away by your wonderful comments and Favs which got it there! Thank you all so much! A great way to start year 2!
This is beautiful! I've never heard of ICM but it seems very interesting and something that I plan to further research. Thanks for the inspiration to learn something new!
@lucypics@barneyone@jdowd Thank you Lucy, Rita and Jennifer. After lots of tries I finally managed to do this. If you look at my Exif information you will see I used a shutter speed of F/22 - this is the trick - you need a slow shutter speed so that the shutter is open as you move the camera either up of down - not sure which I did as I was trying both. It all makes sense as you are hand holding the camera and with a slow shutter speed you will normally get a blurry shot - you are just controlling the direction of blur.
There was a Technical Challenge last year No 16 which is when I first heard about ICM. http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/19970/technique-challenge-16-intentional-camera-movement
There is also an article link in the Challenge which you may find useful.
I hope this helps. It has taken quite a few goes to finally do this - I was using a fast shutter speed and kept getting clear shots of the trees and/or grasses.
