3rd December 2014 - Trees or the tennis court?

These workmen must be fed up with me by now as I have my morning look at what they are doing. They have now cleared behind the tennis courts and have moved along the lane to the trees backing onto the bowling green. I asked them why this morning and was told that the trees have caused lots of damage to the tennis court and bowling green - you can see the moss in the bottom shot. The trees were planted as a hedge but have not been cared for and allowed to grow and grow. The Council want to repair the damaged tennis court and felt that they had to get rid of the trees and let the light in. I am now torn - it is so sad the trees are going but we do need the sports facilities for the youngsters in our area. I will be interested in your opinions.

Many thanks for your comments on yesterday's shots - very much appreciated as always!!
The kids could climb the trees for their exercise. They probably wont use the courts anyway

Wow - this is a big machine - rips things up and munches them! I do think its better that the facilities are maintained and moss and mould make things deteriorate so much!

I'm afraid I'm solidly on the side of the trees.

Always sad to see trees chopped down. Maybe the council could plant some shrubs that wont grow very high.

At least you'll have a full record of the vandalism

Looks like these are grass tennis courts. Maybe the solution is both. Trees plus clay/asphalt courts.

@kathiecb not grass courts but asphalt I think. However the back part of the court which had been in the shadow of the trees is covered in thick moss.

@pamknowler I can see the logic in this decision, unpalatable though it is. To me the way forward should be to plant new small trees of a more suitable variety (and take care of them properly!!!) and repair the sports facilities. Win-win!!

Good that you asked them why the trees were going! This makes sense and makes it a bit easier!
