Once you have walked through the formal gardens you are allowed to take the dogs off lead as you walk through the woods and by the lake. The trees in this area are very old and enormous and it's a beautiful place to walk. The dogs loved it. It was a very cold day but we were sheltered from the wind while we were in the gardens.
@golftragic Westies have thick fur - an under coat which is thick and a top coat. I don't think my dogs need a coat as I don't have them scalped as you see some dogs especially in winter. George's under coat is coming through nicely now and he will soon be having his first trim but only the straggly baby fur off the top. I have always had Finlay cut with a Teddy Bear trim - I hate the scalped look!! Finally Finlay would not walk with a coat on. I have a water proof coat for when its torrential rain and you would think I was torturing him as he just stands with his head and tail down and refuses to walk!! So funny!!
@pamknowler I know what you mean Pam, all of my last three dogs (all crossbreds) have/have had double coats which is great for the winter as you say. Maggie just has a tidy-up clip during the colder months, but has her belly fur shaved in summer so she can cool off on the bathroom tiles or elsewhere cool. As for coats, Maggie's the same, put one on her and down goes the head and tail. She will walk though, but not happy. Gotta love 'em.
