Flying low by pamknowler

Flying low

As I was sitting in the lounge of our holiday home in Westward Ho! I heard a plane and then saw this plane flying overhead just above the rooftops. It flew over towards Instow where there is a Royal Marine training camp. The plane did a circle round at least five times and I managed to get a whole sequence of shots. It was only when I put it on the PC did I see the under carriage which was open with two men standing by a large box? I think they must have been training dropping things from the plane. When we stay in Instow we often see day and night manoeuvres training for beach landings - we think. There were no markings on the plane and I really have no idea what they were doing? It was exciting though!! LOL!!

Best on black. I have cropped right in to try to show you the men standing inside the plane. Not something you see every day!!

Wow... the back end is open! It must have been loud!

@golftragic it was! I get easily excited! Lol! I thought at first it was going to land in the sea or even crash land - I have a vivid imagination! Thankfully it was safe and just out for a joyride!

@carolmw Just checked Wikipedia about Braunton Burrows (other side of estuary from Northam Burrows) and there is a Military section. It makes very interesting reading and they mention the RAF using Lockheed C-130 Hercules for training exercises. I think you are right and it is a Hercules!! Thanks!!

definitely looks like a C-130 Hercules aircraft, great to capture it with it's tail open.
