After the Tsunami by about 3 weeks, there were still sunken boats and the docks were gone. A year later there has been some come back but it is nothing like before
see previous picture to see what it looked like up to the tsunami
Such a far-reaching disaster . . it will take time for nature (and man) to get re-established. Beautiful photo and illustrates how powerful the storm was.
@bkbinthecity We are On the OR/CA border, on the coast (Well obviously on the coast) so redwoods, etc. My husband works in Oregon and we live in California but he only works 22 miles from home. Our harbor and Brookings Oregon's harbor both got hit hard last year. But in 1964 (March, 28) 11 people died and most of our downtown was destroyed in another tsunami.
That just looks so sad! I guess they don't have the money to pull it out of the water? Must be hard for the other boats to maneuver around it. I was just looking at some pictures of the one that hit Japan and what it looks like today. It's hard to comprehend. I have the same feeling when I see pictures from the aftermath of a tornado. It really takes a long time for the rebuilding doesn't it?
@olivetreeann No, this was april 2011, since then we have had a huge crane in to lift the boats and then a big floating barge to help dredge out the tons of silt that filled the harbor and the old dock pieces are piled in the parking lot, but there is a functioning Crab fleet again
