The Black-rumped Flameback(Dinopium benghalense)

What do you do when you are waiting to click a butterfly in flight and a woodpecker comes and sits just 5 feet from you? Leave the butterfly and shoot the flameback....that is what I did.

also called Lesser Golden-backed Woodpecker is a woodpecker found widely distributed in South Asia. It is one of the few woodpeckers that are seen in urban areas, it has a characteristic rattling-whinnying call and an undulating flight. It is the only golden-backed woodpecker with a black throat and black rump.

Wonderful photo! (I put some nuts in the garden yesterday hoping to attract woodpeckers I've seen in the neighbourhood recently.)
