Garde republicaine

Today was one of those lucky day for photos. This morning I decided to go for my weekly (as it can't be daily anymore...) "pictures stroll".
I went to the Pont des Arts to photograph all the padlocks, then I walked along the quays, took great pictures of the boats and then place Saint Michel saw all the horses guards just before I took my bus to go to work. More pictures of them here on my blog: http://t.co/vhhYOD3.
I will probably upload the bridge and Seine's pictures next week during one of my "no photo day"...
Splendid shot, Helene. Love the perspective you've taken. The red on those shiny helmets against the white is great.

Wonderful shot. What is on the horses' rumps; they look checkerboarded (I know that can't be a real word :)).
November 27th, 2010
@shantwin you're absolutly right Shannon, they are shaved with checkerbooared (what ever is the word, I don't know it in english!). I looked on the internet, it seems to be only decorative. there's a closer picture on my blog if you want!

November 28th, 2010
I think it's a neat perspective! (how else would you see the pattern they made on the horses' butts?? So cool!)
November 28th, 2010
How elegant this looks! Don't you love coming across "an event" such a this? Never having had a trip to Paris, it will mean even more once I've seen it for myself. I foresee going through all your pictures again at some later date after the first of the year!
November 28th, 2010
what a powerful and dramatic find! Love the red feathers.
November 28th, 2010
Beautiful shot, love the helmet tails matching the horses tails and the red is so eye catching! When we had our holiday in Paris this summer we put two joining padlocks on the bridge you mention!

A fine splash of colour. The burnished steel helmets show up beautifully.

@shantwin The Mounted Police here in Canada do a similar pattern on their mount's rump....they do a Maple Leaf...emblem of Canada....but it is just brushed on....not sure how they do it, but it is just the fur brushed against the grain so that it stands out.
