Haunted Church

I've used this church before in my project, but, with it being by birthday (I'm 21 again!), and not wanting to waste the day (+ Helen gave me the car for the day :) ) I decided to go back for another shoot. The church has a dark past, as I've mentioned before, abandoned (except by the more fervent locals - the church is in the middle of nowhere) in the 1970s, there have been stories of devil worship taking place there, hauntings and disgusting vandalism. The doors are no longer on, the windows have been removed, and there is graffiti on the walls and floors. Today I also came across what looked like a pool of blood on the floor (I kid you not), some broken up flooring, and lots of other things that shouldn't be happening to the place. But despite all that is wrong with it, and there is plenty wrong, it holds an appeal to me, a mystery that keeps me going back, And it is still a beautiful, if rather sad looking building. The church can be funny, too. Sometimes you can go there and feel like you're in the most peaceful place on earth. Other times, like today, you just feel like you are being watched from the shadows, which can make you feel very uncomfortable. Normally I would have packed up and gone home, but, like I said, it's my birthday and I wasn't leaving without my shots. So I told whatever it was that was bugging me to behave and leave me alone. After that, it wasn't so bad :) :)

Thank you for all your views and comments. I will catch up. Another 4am start this morning for the boys swim session - he's called the boy now until he stops getting us up so early :) So mum and dad are tired bunnies :/
What an incredible structure and quite the storied history to go along with it. We love abandoned buildings and have our favorites as well - always something interesting to photograph.

Happy '21st' birthday Paul! LOL

Wow this is spooky but I love it, real atmosphere in here. Imagine it being placed near Ballintoy harbour. Would be fabulous. I loved hearing about it - and happy birthday for today - we could nearly be twins - mine tomorrow!! (Wish I was 21 too but sadly not) :)))

Happy Birthday, sounds like you had a terrifying day.

I can almost see the hooded monks and the sacrificial virgin lurking in the shadows.

Interesting building and post processing. I know you like this kind of places, but be careful. They are excellent places for people to hide, if they have to run away from something. Well, I hope you had a happy birthday and I'm sure the children and Helen celebrated you appropriately! Happy year!
