Ballroom

Such a miserable day weather wise took my self off to visit Cliffe Castle Museum in Keighley, West Yorkshire a fine building crammed full of artefacts this is one end of what was originally the ballroom, no flash allowed so high ISO and long exposure the order of the day. (bob)
Brief history:- Cliffe Hall was built by Christopher Netherwood between 1828 and 1833, and designed by George Webster of Kendal, a gothic revivalist. The Butterfields, a textile manufacturing family, bought Cliffe Hall in 1848. Henry Butterfield transformed the building by adding towers, a ballroom and conservatories from 1875 to 1880, and renamed it Cliffe Castle in 1878.
In 1949 the building and grounds were bought by Keighley Corporation with the assistance of Sir Bracewell Smith, a local benefactor, who in 1955, paid for the conversion of the house for public use as a museum free for all to entry:
How wonderful blast from the past

@dawnee Thank you for your comment Dawn the rooms are quite full of things of a fragile nature they would all have to go before I started treading the light fantastic in the ballroom, lol:)

Very ornate. Keighley is a bleak place on a sunny day, so on a dreary day I am glad to see you are indoors.

@onewing Thanks Babs for your comments clearly you know Keighley better than I, this was my first ever visit I will be returning on a better day as you probably know its full of old ornate buildings that are shouting out to be photographed:)

i tend to agree with Babs @onewing regarding the ambience of Keighley.. i visit the town only for the steam trains.. i've often thought of visiting Cliffe Castle as it must be about 35 years since last there..
this is a fine view of the ballroom.. isn't that ceiling amazing!

@pcoulson @jorlam It is a fabulous place for photography. Both Keighley and Haworth (Bronte country) were regular visiting places when I was a child. We had relatives in Shipley. All bleak places though from childhood memories. ha ha.
