I used to work cross the road from the Piece Hall, but I don’t remember ever seeing this lovely gate. I wonder if it’s been renovated since I left

@yorkshirekiwi Thank you for your comment Carole I have only been living in the area for almost three years so don't know the history of the gates, its Halifax camera club tonight I'll ask around and let you know:)

@yorkshirekiwi would you believe one of the camera club members worked on the renovation of the Piece Hall in 1975 - 1976 and said the gates were definitely there then, checking the history this morning the south gate was widened in 1868 for cart access I suspect that's when the gates were fitted, so to answer your question Carole they were there in your day, lol:)

@365anne Many thanks Anne, the symbolism in the design is lost on me other than the two crests are the coat of arms for Halifax:)

@louannwarren Thank you Lou Ann, I understand from a camera club member they have been closed in the past,
since the Piece Hall reopened on 1 August 2017, after a £19 million restoration project started in 2014 I have never seen them closed:)
