This is Geoffrey laying his poppy wreath in private tribute to all who gave they lives in the second world war, as can be seen we had heavy rain throughout our village remembrance service (Armistice Day)
Geoffrey is a veteran of the D Day landings on the 6th June 1944, he served in the Royal Navy and was in charge of a landing craft (he was aged 19 at the time), ferrying troops from the ships to the beaches making the trip many times during that day he was constantly under fire the whole time:)
@henrir Thank you for your comment Henri its confession time I mixed two veterans names Julian and Geoffrey, this photograph and narrative is
correct his name is definitely Geoffrey not Julian:)
@louannwarren Thank you so much for your lovely words Lou Ann, sorry about the confusion over his name, I was taking photographs on behalf of Yorkshire Post newspaper and realised my mistake before sending my shots off to print, I took more images of him and his daughter for them only, these have been emailed and I asked her to thank him for what he had done for us all in the name of freedom:)
@onewing Thank you for your great comment Babs you are right cold and wet was the order of the day in the trenches, we placed four little wooden crosses with their names on for our fallen relatives:)
So many families have a personal connections to the wars and its great that we are able to continue to remember their stories and share them with others. Great image Peter.
correct his name is definitely Geoffrey not Julian:)
I was also thinking that about the rain.
