Bailiffe Bridge Memorial by pcoulson

Bailiffe Bridge Memorial

My entry in this week 52pom2019 challenge " your town/city"
This is the war memorial in the nearest village to where I live, the village school is in the background,
Mounted my camera on a tripod and fired it off using a wifi remote trigger.
Very wonderful to see you and this wonderful memorial. I love the red wreaths!

Great idea to put yourself in the picture. Some of my Hepworth side of the family come from Heckmondwike.

@louannwarren Many thanks for your lovely comment Lou Ann the red wreaths are made up of artificial poppies the symbol of remembrance in the British commonwealth
The remembrance poppy was inspired by the World War I poem "In Flanders Fields". Its opening lines refer to the many poppies that were the first flowers to grow in the churned-up earth of soldiers' graves in Flanders, a region of Belgium in the first world war:)

@bella_ss Thanks Sheralee for you comment, all the buildings in the background are very old and built on Sir William Aykroyd's land he also paid to have them built, the properties behind me are less than 8 years old and had to be built in the same type of stone as the old ones:)

@onewing Thank you so much Babs, Heckmondwike is only 5 miles or 8 km away from this location, I suspect they would have known Bailliffe Bridge well:)
