This is Geoffrey a D-Day survivor who lives in our village, a veteran of the D Day landings on the 6th June 1944, he served in the Royal Navy and at 19 years of age was in charge of a landing craft ferrying troops from the ships to the beaches making the trip many times during that day he said he was constantly under fire the whole time, he was particularly proud to tell me he had received and was wearing the Legion d'honneur Frances highest military honour, presented to him by the French ambassador on behalf of the French government in January 2016 in recognition of his contribution and bravery during the D Day landings,
I posted this today the 75th anniversary of the landings in tribute to all those men and women that took part in this momentous event.
@dide Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and fav Dianne we will never know what they faced at such a young age but we must never forget what they did for us all in the name of freedom:)
A lovely portrait of this good, brave man. The Legion of Honour, oh my. So many good, good men gave everything they had that day. The next time you see Geoffrey, please thank him for his service.
A brave, brave man in a boy's body in 1944 and now a brave man in a much older body. Utmost respect to him and all who served to keep us safe. Thank you for posting this and thank you to Geoffrey for allowing it.
