Horse chestnut better known in the UK as a Conker, small boys collect them this time of year, thread a string through the middle to play the traditional game of Conkers, boy 1 holds his conkers and boy 2 has 3 goes at striking boy 1's conker, then boy 1 has 3 goes at hitting boy 2's conker and so on until one smashes to pieces, the one remaining is the winner, knuckles can get very bruised but its all part of the fun, girls can also play the game but tend to cry when knuckles are hit by the opponents conker.
Excuse me! ha ha. I used to play conkers and never cried once. I will put you in the naughty corner. I was always a bit of a tomboy and last year when we saw horse chestnuts in our supermarket, David and I bought some and had a great game of conkers. Never too old to play.
@terryliv Thanks Terry one of the joys of growing up over here, very much an eccentric English pursuit and a game the Aussies can't beat us up at as they do with all others;
@onewing Thanks very much Babs,love the story, I know some girls play Conkers my two sisters played, your never to old to play Conkers can't wait until my two grandsons are old enough to play;)
@peterlgrave Thanks so much Peter for your comments, very much an English pursuit, Elf & Safety has stopped children playing it in school break times !!!;)
@lilminimonka Thank you so much for your lovely comments Brianna, I did say I would post an image of a Conker following your Sweet Gum Tree Fruit image in March, they look similar on the tree, but that's were the similarity ends, its great fun to play Conkers and better still cost nothing to play;)
