Another for my Get Pushed Challenge set by Angie - Architecture.
All Saints is an iconic church, standing in a prominent position on Blackheath, and alongside Blackheath Village, in south-east London. The church was consecrated in 1858 and has a notable history, both musical and ecclesiastical.
The terrace of buildings beyond the church to the right dates from the 18th century. Now a hotel, these were originally homes to both City merchants and naval personnel (there are many historical naval links in the local area, notably the Royal Naval College, and the former Greenwich Seamen's Hospital).
Blackheath itself has a great history to it. It straddles the main London - Dover route and has featured in many significant events of the past two thousand years. The old Roman Road (Watling Street) crosses here, and the Heath itself has been used as an assembly point at various times and for various reasons. The 1381 Peasants' Revolt rallied here, and it was used as a burial ground during the 14th and 17th century plague years.
This photo is SOOP (straight out of phone!) with no post editing or processing at all. It does look better viewed large on black.
Many thanks for all your comments and favs over recent days. I read every one!
Phones really do quite a fair job don't they these days. I use mine a lot and like Snapseed for editing. I especially use it while travelling. Beautiful shaped church and those clouds are the perfect backdrop. Cars are such a modern day pain though aren't they, photo bombing our images!
