A visit to Aylesford Priory, near Maidstone, Kent. This was established in the 14th century, and was the first Carmelite Priory outside the Holy Land. It became the Mother House to a network of Carmelite priories across the UK until the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII in 1538, when it passed into private hands.
After a fire in the 1930s, the property was put up for sale in 1949 and purchased by the Carmelite Order; they began the work to convert it back to its original use and before long it had become a flourishing pilgrimage centre. It remains a haven of peace and serenity.
I love the golden light on those worn stones. You've captured it's history in your photo ~ I can just imagine a monk quietly walking through this cloister.
@casablanca@angelikavr@jacqbb@fbailey@flowerfairyann Casablanca, Angelika, Jacq, Felicity and Ann, I am rather taken aback by your comments, thank you so much. It is a wonderful place and this was one of those shots where you kind of know that it might be a bit special when you're taking it. I'm definitely going to return there; they offer accommodation so I am thinking about booking in for a short break of reflection and solitude.
Beautiful light and dof. I subscribe to all the comments above! Fav
I’ll tell you about the Fuji as soon as I will be more confident with it. I can already tell you that it is much easier to keep in my purse wherever I go!

So glad it returned to the original owners who restored it to its splendour
