The name takes me straight back to childhood memories of the High Chaparral TV series - there were always lots of Creeks and much woodsmoke, as far as I recall.
Anyway, this creek links back to my earlier shot of Poulton-le-Fylde, the old market town serving this part of Lancashire before Blackpool (and associated port of Fleetwood) rose to prominence in the 19th century. There's also a link to yesterday's shot, as you can see the "Bridge" from that in the background, although we are now upstream of it.
Skippool Creek was the river port serving Poulton. In its heyday, goods from around the world were landed here. And, in the days when land travel over long distances could be tricky, sea and river cargo between inland commercial centres around the UK was often the better bet.
Nowadays, this is a rather sleepy backwater, and used mostly by the occasional leisure boater.
For this I have used the Lightroom colour "yesteryear" template, rather than just going straight to black and white, as it seemed to me to strike the right balance.
The template gives it a real yesteryears feel! My first idea was the seventies. The photo's my father took in that time seemed to have about the same colour! wonderful view!
Lovely peaceful shot of a sleepy backwater. I could have been fooled, except for the bridge. They really need to change that for one of greater vintage...
