Sowerby Bridge by peadar

Sowerby Bridge

The canal fest continues! This is the Rochdale Canal at Sowerby Bridge. I'm standing on Lock No 2, ahead is Bridge No 1. From here the canal powers its way across the Pennines to Manchester.

Christ Church, which you can see standing proud in the background, was built in 1821 to meet the growing population of Sowerby Bridge brought on by the onset of the Industrial Revolution aided in no small part by the building of the canal system. The church can trace a historical thread back to the 16th century, when a much smaller building stood on this site.

Processed in line with my recent Yorkshire shots - desaturated but warm toned and higher contrast.

Many thanks for all of your recent comments and continuing support - very much appreciated.

We take it for granted. And how much ingenuity and effort it cost to build these devices. A great channel series. Lovely light.
