Well, another one off the bucket list. Inspired by many other shots like this on 365, here's my version. I can't tell you how much time I spent on this, it would be embarrassing! All the simple looking shots are so difficult!!!
Oooh! That's super cool, Peter! You're really ticking those boxes on your list! And it's not embarrassing to try to master a new skill, it's bound to take time!
Wow I just LOVE this....no idea but imagine its like one of those horrendous water shots.....you are star determined to go out with a bang!! a huge FAV!!
@fannyb Fanny, thank you so much. After all the complicated things I tried, washing up liquid in the water, olive oil, hot water, cold water, food colouring, goodness knows what else, this was, in the end, quite simple!
Yes, but how??!! FAV obviously as I know, from painful experience, how long and frustrating these sessions can be.... so, am begging you, tell us how! Fanny and I would be most appreciative!!
@jackie8 ha ha you are ace Jackie......as if i'm going to spend 2 hours splattering ink everywhere........so give us the low down then Peter!! Its a competition........J versus F ha ha what fun!!!!!!!!!
@jackie8@fannyb I am laughing so much, you are both such a scream. Anyway, very simple in the end. I tried all the stuff you're supposed to do - washing up liquid in the water etc, in the end, this was a simple drop of blue ink in plain water, off camera flash, manual focus, manual settings... Thank you!
Wow Peter even though you have explained I am feeling a little dumb did you do this in a glass or something? it is so effective and I am in awe of all these different things you are trying. Is this called High Key? A fav from me.
Well done Peter, I think we always get a result of sorts that's worth posting, though I'm often not sure that the frustration over pleasure equation quite balances out!
An inventive set up too no doubt :)
@elaine55 Elaine, I used a pint glass of water and simple blue ink (from a fountain pen). One drop of ink onto the surface of the water (from fairly close) and it gradually winds it way down through the body of water. Thinking about it now, you could probably get a good effect by stirring the water before placing the drop of ink! Might try that. Then a tight crop and process in Lightroom.
@henrir Thanks for the Fav, Henri! @kbalychev Thank you, Kimberley! @bluefirebucket Mick, I was on the verge of giving up. I was filling up the glass with water for a final try when I spotted my fountain pen. The end result made it worthwhile on this occasion!
PP, well done Peter, that made it all worthwhile! Thanks for the info, my heart sank though when I saw you used off camera flash... Does that involve remote triggers/wi fi and all that technical stuff? I have got an external flash, I'm not very au fait with it...:(
@jackie8 I picked up a very economical hard wired solution through Amazon, a "Lastolite" off-camera flash cord. It's wired so you have less flexibility than the Canon wire-free solutions but, hey, it's so much cheaper. Yes, remote release as well but again through Amazon, look for Pixel Pro Digital for Canon, it's a very economical solution! :-)
@gerry Thanks, Gerry.
@janettee Thank you, Janette!
@hopelessromantic Thank you, Peter!
@kwind Thank you, appreciate that.
An inventive set up too no doubt :)
@midumas Thanks, Michel.
@deeganp Thank you, Pea!
@kbalychev Thank you, Kimberley!
