Well, another one off the bucket list. Inspired by many other shots like this on 365, here's my version. I can't tell you how much time I spent on this, it would be embarrassing! All the simple looking shots are so difficult!!!

Thanks for all your comments recently!
Oooh! That's super cool, Peter! You're really ticking those boxes on your list! And it's not embarrassing to try to master a new skill, it's bound to take time!

January 27th, 2013
It looks like you PAINTED it. I can't figure out how you did this. Very cool -- but share your secret ? :)
January 27th, 2013
Wow I just LOVE this....no idea but imagine its like one of those horrendous water shots.....you are star determined to go out with a bang!! a huge FAV!!
January 27th, 2013
@peadar your welcome Peter
January 27th, 2013
Love it
January 27th, 2013
beautiful shot, would like to know how you did it too, great job!
January 27th, 2013
It was worth however long it took.
January 27th, 2013
@jyokota Thanks for the comment. After hours of trying different things, this ended up being very simple!
January 27th, 2013
@fannyb Fanny, thank you so much. After all the complicated things I tried, washing up liquid in the water, olive oil, hot water, cold water, food colouring, goodness knows what else, this was, in the end, quite simple!
January 27th, 2013
@alisonp Thanks, Alison.
@janettee Thank you, Janette!
@hopelessromantic Thank you, Peter!
January 27th, 2013
Still on my list!!! Think I've lost the list though!!! Super Peter!!! Fav for effort and a terrific outcome!
January 27th, 2013
@ruthmouch Thank you, Ruth, appreciate that!
January 27th, 2013
I can just imagine, they always do take longer. Your patience paid off though, as this is beautiful.
January 27th, 2013
Well done...I've yet to try this but I know what you mean about the simple shots being the hardest.
January 27th, 2013
@nicolecampbell Thank you, Nicole!
@kwind Thank you, appreciate that.
January 27th, 2013
Yes, but how??!! FAV obviously as I know, from painful experience, how long and frustrating these sessions can be.... so, am begging you, tell us how! Fanny and I would be most appreciative!!
January 27th, 2013
@jackie8 ha ha you are ace Jackie......as if i'm going to spend 2 hours splattering ink everywhere........so give us the low down then Peter!! Its a competition........J versus F ha ha what fun!!!!!!!!!
January 27th, 2013
@jackie8 @fannyb I am laughing so much, you are both such a scream. Anyway, very simple in the end. I tried all the stuff you're supposed to do - washing up liquid in the water etc, in the end, this was a simple drop of blue ink in plain water, off camera flash, manual focus, manual settings... Thank you!
January 27th, 2013
@jackie8 @fannyb And then, a lot of Lightroom!!!
January 27th, 2013
A lovely abstract, Peter!

Nice abstract

Like it!
January 28th, 2013
Wow Peter even though you have explained I am feeling a little dumb did you do this in a glass or something? it is so effective and I am in awe of all these different things you are trying. Is this called High Key? A fav from me.
January 28th, 2013
I wish I knew how to try this, it's really cool!
January 28th, 2013
Really cool shot. I must put that on my bucket list also. Fav.
January 28th, 2013
Super duper shot Peter! :) I love this one! :) :)
January 28th, 2013
Well done Peter, I think we always get a result of sorts that's worth posting, though I'm often not sure that the frustration over pleasure equation quite balances out!
An inventive set up too no doubt :)
January 28th, 2013
@soboy5 Thank you, Danny!
@midumas Thanks, Michel.
@deeganp Thank you, Pea!
January 28th, 2013
@elaine55 Elaine, I used a pint glass of water and simple blue ink (from a fountain pen). One drop of ink onto the surface of the water (from fairly close) and it gradually winds it way down through the body of water. Thinking about it now, you could probably get a good effect by stirring the water before placing the drop of ink! Might try that. Then a tight crop and process in Lightroom.
January 28th, 2013
@elaine55 Oh, and thanks for the Fav!
January 28th, 2013
@christinehosey Christine, see above, I discovered after an hour and a half of experiment that it's really quite easy!
January 28th, 2013
@henrir Thanks for the Fav, Henri!
@kbalychev Thank you, Kimberley!
@bluefirebucket Mick, I was on the verge of giving up. I was filling up the glass with water for a final try when I spotted my fountain pen. The end result made it worthwhile on this occasion!
January 28th, 2013
@peadar thanks Peter, I have done something similar but what fascinated me is that you cannot see the glass and the high key.
January 28th, 2013
@elaine55 I have to credit Lightroom - it's such an amazing piece of software.
January 28th, 2013
I love this, so refreshing and simple, well done Peter. Your hard work has paid off.
January 28th, 2013
@peadar thank you Peter
January 28th, 2013
Nice to see this on the PP!
January 28th, 2013
@pachelbel Thanks, Veronica!
January 28th, 2013
@elaine55 Elaine, yes, still stupidly exciting when that happens! Thanks!
January 28th, 2013
thats awesome!
January 28th, 2013
It may have taken you a while to create, but it was worth the effort. Brilliant.
January 28th, 2013
@nicoleterheide Thanks, Nicole!
@onewing Babs, that's kind, thank you!
January 28th, 2013
This is incredibly.. incredible. I stared at it for a long time trying to figure out how exactly you did this. FAV!
January 28th, 2013
@chanchiawei Thanks for the Fav!
January 28th, 2013
It's great when folk try something different - especially when it turns out as successfully as this one.
January 28th, 2013
@gooner46 Thanks, Chris!
January 28th, 2013
PP, well done Peter, that made it all worthwhile! Thanks for the info, my heart sank though when I saw you used off camera flash... Does that involve remote triggers/wi fi and all that technical stuff? I have got an external flash, I'm not very au fait with it...:(
January 28th, 2013
@jackie8 I picked up a very economical hard wired solution through Amazon, a "Lastolite" off-camera flash cord. It's wired so you have less flexibility than the Canon wire-free solutions but, hey, it's so much cheaper. Yes, remote release as well but again through Amazon, look for Pixel Pro Digital for Canon, it's a very economical solution! :-)
January 28th, 2013
@jackie8 And, it will be a challenge for you to discover how to use it all! Which you will get in about 3 seconds!
January 28th, 2013
@peadar - thanks Peter (although I must say that all makes me feel a bit feint!!) But, never a girl to be beaten, I'll investigate and give it a go!
January 28th, 2013
Hats off to you! Great execution
January 29th, 2013
