Another from my visit to Market Weighton. A church on this site was founded in Saxon times. In 627 AD, following the destruction of a pagan grove at neighbouring Goodmanham, King Edwin of Northumbria was converted to Christianity. This then became the official religion throughout Northumbria, and a number of wooden churches were built, including one here in Market Weighton. No traces of that building survive, the structure you see here was developed from a stone building erected around the end of the 12th century.
Many thanks for all of your comments and support, very much appreciated.
