The ostler

The King's Arms, in Shoreham, Kent, UK, dates from the 16th century. They believe this Ostler's snug is the only surviving example of its kind in the UK. The Ostler was engaged to look after the horses of customers at the Inn. There is an internal hatch whereby drinks and food can be passed from inside the pub to the Ostler.

There is a rather creepy mannequin stationed inside this now (but then, I think all mannequins are creepy). It can be a bit of a surprise if you happen to be sitting on the table next to it and don't know it's there, or have perhaps forgotten since your last visit.
Well you learn something new every day! I wonder if he was only jolly once the tankards started getting passed through

How interesting and I can see that he would be a bit creepy if you aren't prepared for him. Super capture.

An ostler's snug? British pubs have a lexicon all of their own. Very informative Peter.
