In the pink

From our recent trip to The Cotswolds. This was Birdland - a bird sanctuary and breeding centre.

In their natural habitat the flamingos acquire their pink colour from their food source (small shrimp and algae). In bird sanctuaries like this they are fed natural beta-carotenoids to help them achieve the same colour (otherwise they would remain grey!).
How interesting - colour fed flamingos!

@fbailey Well, you can achieve the same effect by eating a surfeit of carrots! 😀
