Book Bag

This person was in front of me at the library check out desk picking up a copy of the next book for Turning Pages book club...'Sing, Unburied, Sing' by Jesmyn Ward. I saw her sitting outside the library when I was leaving and snapped a quick covert photo. Turning Pages is a book club for the homeless established ten years ago. Through sponsorship funding, participants are provided copies of the month's book selection to keep.
Three Good Things:
1. Books
2. A determination to add quality to life despite hardships
3. Seeing with eyes wide open
Great candid shot

Well I am in awe of this young person...if anyone needs a chance she does! What a truly great scheme too, I’m sure we haven’t anything similar in the UK. To be strong enough not to let homelessness get you down...I do hope she continues to strive for a better life than she has just at this moment in time. Well done Turning Pages.

Love the story. Our local public library needs more room & we’re looking to expand (which was going to be difficult) or relocate & build from scratch. Land was located in the suburban part of town, but a grassroots effort worked hard to keep it downtown where it is more accessible to those without cars. Every time I go to the library it is full with those who have walked, taken the bus or biked to use it. The computers are always in use. Jobs are searched. Many activities are available. It amazing how the libraries have evolved to serve the entire community.
