In the XXI century nobody is surprised to see a large building, it can be very nice of course, but the stones are moved by a huge crane and that's how they are in that place. However, in previous civilizations they built real monsters in places sometimes unimaginable. I am really impressed by the Inca and pre-Inca constructions, I think that are something spectacular. How 500 years ago, and more, they were moving stones weighing several tons, from the quarries and transporting 5-10km away those stones, constructing all their buildings. Cities on the top of mountains. Also moving thousands of stones with lighter weight (several hundred kilos) to build terraced fields or houses. Brutal. And I do not come to discuss about how and who came to make piping systems for raising water or take sources from not known where, even nowadays, but entering channeled underground.
The town of Pisac , not as famous as Machu Picchu, but really impressive, and the mountain wall as "graveyard": 5km in length and 10,000 graves bored into the rock. Large terraces for growing food that required 5000 mouths, all with a magnificent view, although that does not seem important to them something when choosing location. Houses with rooms to shelter the entire population. A hospital with windows facing east for air to enter, and to get the maximum possible light, so that they could conduct their operations (and cranial trepanation) with good light, in addition to be more tolerable for patients staying there. En pleno siglo XXI nadie se asombra de ver una gran construcción, puede ser muy bonita por supuesto, pero las piedras puestas las mueve una grúa enorme. Sin embargo, en las civilizaciones anteriores construían verdaderos monstruos en sitios a veces inimaginables. Estoy realmente impresionado por las construcciones incas y pre-incas, me parece algo espectacular. Cómo hace 500 años, y más, movían piedras de varias toneladas, transportándolas desde las canteras a 5-10km, y en aumento, hasta donde realizaban sus construcciones. Ciudades en cimas de montañas. Además mover miles de piedras de menor peso (varios cientos de kilos) para hacer terrazas de cultivo o casas. Brutal. Y ya ni entro a comentar que llegaban a hacer sistemas de canalización para hacer subir agua, o sacar fuentes de no se sabe donde, pero que entran canalizadas bajo tierra.
La ciudad de Písac, no tan famosa como Machu Picchu, pero realmente impresionante, y con una pared de la montaña como”cementerio”: 5km de longitud y 10.000 tumbas agujereadas en la roca. Grandes terrazas para cultivar el alimento que requerían 5000 bocas, todo con una vista insuperable, aunque a ellos eso no les pareciera algo importante a la hora de elegir emplazamiento. Casas con habitaciones para cobijar a toda la población. Un hospital con las ventanas orientadas al este para aire entrara la máxima luz posible, de forma que pudieran realizar sus operaciones (y trepanaciones craneales) con buena luz, además de para hacer más llevadero a los enfermos su estancia ahí. No hay detalle que escapara.
Imaginar todo eso deja a uno exhausto diciendo “¿cómo es posible que hicieran todo esto en estas montañas y pendientes de roca?”
