Enigma by pflaume

Enigma

This photo was taken at a large - and very frozen - fountain in front of an office building. The water from the fountain has frozen into fascinating ice formations. At certain angles, it looked almost glacial. I love the different layers of ice in this image contrasted against the sky and trees in the background.
I agree, glacial is a perfect description. The composition is awsome.

Had to enlarge this to appreciate the qualities having read the narrative, the icicles are stunning in detail each texture has a unique quality of its own and this image would survive on tone alone, fabulous pov and another gem leaves your lens!!!!!

@jenniferruge Thanks Jennifer. I love that about it, too. To me, it looks like someone cut away the ice to reveal the trees.

@pflaume So you should be its stunning and you rock !

You definitely see more detail viewing it large. When I first saw the thumbnail I thought it was icicles hanging from somebody's gutter. Mine looks like that at times. The bluish cast to the ice makes it look like glacier ice.

Beautiful!

Fav. It seems like I spend half my life photographing ice and snow, but I've never seen anything like this. The diagonal composition and tremendously different subject matter and color in each layer makes this one really special.

Brilliant composition - a really unusual shot.

@mizhayz Thank you! It's funny but when I was taking the shot, I was focusing on the layers of ice. I didn't even recognize that the trees would become a critical element. So glad they were there in the end. :o)

@skipt07 Yes, I could see that it would be easy to overlook this photo from the thumbnail. Thanks for looking further!

@jankoos Thanks Jan! I know what you mean. I think it is hard to look at the photo at first and know what it is. That's why I called it "Enigma".
